Welcome

. . . to Hugh Nicoll's Moodle site for students at MMU, which I have titled my Virtual Salon. To enroll in one of the courses here, you'll need to be enrolled in one of my face-to-face classes, and get an enrolment key to register for and participate in your course. I will offer online practice exercises to support our in-class activities, and forums for sharing your work with me and with your classmates.

    Available courses

During the American Literature course we will work with a number of assigned texts, all online: Kathryn VanSpanckeren's A Brief Introduction to American Literature, and an anthology of American short stories, poetry, and excerpts from novels. The reading assignments will be supplemented by in-class mini-lectures introducing other art forms – mostly paintings and music in order to link the literary history of the United States to the economic, historical and popular culture contexts for the texts we will study in the course.

“Introduction to Latin American Studies” is a lecture course designed to introduce students to the interdisciplinary study [学際的 ] of Latin American social and political history. It is designed to extend and complement the work students have done in アメリカ文化論, and Introduction to intercultural communication courses. Latin America is generally defined as including the mostly Spanish speaking countries of the Caribbean, Central and South America and of course, Brazil.  We will, therefore, work with a variety of texts in trying to come to terms with the basic question, "What is Latin American culture and how did it come to be this way?"

AmBunRon2019 is the support site for students enrolled in the first semester "Introduction to American Studies" lecture course at Miyazaki Municipal University.
